Scaly leg mites (Knemodocoptes Mutans) are probably the most common external parasite of poultry. You will get to know each of your flock members’ foot quirks after doing this a few times and know to watch out for that one (or probably more than one) silkie whose fifth toe points in a funky direction with a subsequent overgrown toenail. Silkie’s feet should be checked for long nails every 2- 3 weeks.
